I have a 56 MGA that developed a noise under load in 1st., 2nd. and 3rd. gear but not in 4th. It shifts okay but sounds like something is going to let loose, I’m afraid to give it much gas. Does anyone have experience or a recommendation for a shop that does transmission work on British cars? I will have to drop the engine this fall and remove the transmission. Any advice in this matter would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Norb Wessely

    Hi Norb,
Just noticed this post. Sounds like your laygear bearings are going bad which is fairly common on MGA/early MGBs. I rebuild British car transmissions. you can contact me at quadteq@twc.com or 920-284-4705 (mobile).

    Ken
